Daily Hours: Night Hour - Ganonaklookh/Head of the Canon
Description: In ancient Armenian monastic worship, the nucleus of the Night Service used to consist in the chanting of large blocks of the Psalter known as canons (ganon). The concluding several psalms of each canon, known as Ganonaklookh, were sung in a more elaborate, melismatic tune. Today, the main psalmody has fallen out of use in most places and only the exquisite Ganonaklookh is sung.
