The very foundation of Christian theological education is found in the Scriptures and their testimony of Christ. More than mere familiarity with the Bible is expected of those who share the Word of God. Courses in this area provide a broad-based acquaintance with the contents of the Bible and its theology; its translation, transmission, and interpretation by the vardapets of the Armenian Church; and its appropriation in the lives of the Armenian faithful both past and present.

BS 111 The Literature and Faith of Ancient Israel
An introduction to the literature and theology of the Hebrew Bible and its interpretation.

BS 112 The Literature and Faith of Early Christianity
An introduction to the literature and theology of the New Testament and its interpretation.

BS 211 Scripture Readings of the Liturgical Year I
(cross-listing LI 211; may not be counted as a foundational course in more than one area of the core requirements).

BS 212 Scripture Readings of the Liturgical Year II
(cross-listing LI 212; may not be counted as a foundational course in more than one area of the core requirements).

BS 450 Seminar in Armenian Biblical Commentaries
After acquainting students with interpretational approaches in Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity and the earliest Armenian translations of Biblical commentaries from Syriac and Greek, the course focuses on the vast corpus of Armenian Biblical commentaries as of the eighth century.

BS 451 Directed Reading in Biblical Studies
Focused reading and research in either of the two Testaments. May be repeated once, but may not be considered as substitute for more than one core-requirement course.

BS 480 Independent Study: The Armenian Bible
Independent and advanced study focused on the Armenian Bible, for students who have completed basic courses in the area. May be repeated once.

TAKE A MOMENT TO PRAY for our college students. May God protect them from danger and guide them in the decisions they make. May he fill them with his love and inspire them as they learn and grow.
