The intellectual roots of Armenian Christianity are found in the works of the Fathers of the Church. The founders of Armenian letters and nearly all writers for more than a millennium of remarkable literary accomplishments were Church Fathers. Resurrecting most of their works from an archival preservation to a state of relevancy and immediacy for basic issues in current theological discussion and for personal enrichment is the purpose of the courses described below.

PA 201 Armenian Church Fathers I
The lives and works of the Armenian Church Fathers from the fourth to the end of the tenth century: from the Gregorids to Narekats'i. The lectures in this course are in memory of Bishop Zgon Der-Hagopian.

PA 202 Armenian Church Fathers II
The lives and works of the Armenian Church Fathers from the eleventh to the end of the fifteenth century: from the Pahlawunis to Tat'ewats'i. The lectures in this course are in memory of Bishop Zgon Der-Hagopian.

PA 303 Themes in Armenian Theology
Major theological themes especially in the confessional or dogmatic writings of the Armenian Church, with some emphasis on its distinctive doctrines, are the focus of this course. Students are introduced to the primary sources in the first few classes.

PA 404 Spirituality Past and Present
The classical sources of Armenian spirituality along with other masterpieces of prayer. Students examine the spiritual dimensions of Patristic worship and are thus guided, through appropriation of insights, in their personal journey of faith with God. The course requires preparatory reading, prayer writing, and reflection papers.

PA 451 Directed Reading in Armenian Patristics
Focused reading and research in the works of a voluminous Father. May be repeated once, but may not be considered as substitute for more than one core-requirement course.

PA 480 Independent Study in Armenian Patristics
Independent and advanced study dealing with a problem in the field of Armenian Patristics, for students who have completed basic courses in the area. May be repeated once.

TAKE A MOMENT TO PRAY for His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
