Holy Week: Thursday Great Vigil (Khavaroom) Խաւարում
Description: The Great Vigil on the night between Holy Thursday and Holy Friday is known as Khavaroom. It consist of an elaborate Night Service (Keesherayeen Zham) plus the Morning Service (Aravodyan Zham).

Orhnootyoon Hymn: Ardzatseerootyamp (Օրհ. ԲՁ Արծաթսիրութեամբ)
Description: The Orhnootyoon sharagan is associated with the Moses' Song of Victory following the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea in Exodus 15. This particular hymn is about Jesus' betrayal by Judas. Ardzatseerootyamp is the instrumental case of the noun Ardzatseerootyoon,which literally means "love of silver," or, more generally, avarice or greed. The reference is to Judas' motivation for betraying Jesus. ![]()

Translation: (1) O wondrous and awesome sight! Today we saw the Creator of heaven and earth on the cross. (2) Seeing the Lord on the cross, the sun became dark and the curtain of the temple was torn from top to bottom. (3) The Lord was shamefully crucified between two criminals so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: "He was reckoned with the criminals." ![]()

Description: This ancient hymn (actually a series of several separate hymns sung in succession) was originally sung in Jerusalem, and survives today in almost every ancient Christian language. Description: In some places, at the height of the Khavaroom Service, when the church is entirely dark, the clergy chant Der Voghormya forty times in particular plaintive tone. ![]()
