A feast of delicious Armenian food, the laughter of children enjoying games and activities, the discovery of treasures at an Attic Treasures sale, and maybe even a prayerful moment in the Seminary Chapel. That's what you can be doing on Saturday, June 16 at the annual St. Nersess Picnic.
The annual event kicks off the summer seaon and will be held from 12-7pm on the scenic grounds of the Seminary's New Rochelle, NY campus. Come for lunch and stay for dinner with fun activities all day long for the whole family.
In addition to musical entertainment, activities for children and teens will be offered throughout the day including a magician, face-painting, and a mid-afternoon book reading by children's author, Talene Dadian White. She will read from one of her takes on a classic fairy tale with an Armenian twist! Her books will also be available for purchase.
Baykar Dervishian, better known as "The Armenian Vendor," will be selling his exquisite Armenian items ranging from CD's to jewelry, artwork and gifts.
An "Attic Treasures" sale will also be going on throughout the day.
"The St. Nersess Picnic is the perfect family day out activity. There is so much to do for all ages in one place," said V. Rev. Fr. Daniel Findikyan, Seminary Dean. "Plus, you will be supporting the Seminary and its efforts to prepare church leaders all while enjoying an afternoon filled with fellowship, fun, and the peaceful beauty of our Seminary."
General sponsorships are being secured to help underwrite the cost of this event so that all proceeds on the day of the picnic will directly benefit the ongoing mission of St. Nersess Seminary, which is to prepare leaders in ordained and lay ministries through graduate theological degree and continuing education programs.
The Seminary has again launched a Super Raffle, with winners being announced the day of the picnic. Only 300 tickets are available, with each ticket costing $50. The three cash prizes awarded will be $3000, $1500 and $500. To purchase your ticket and a great chance to win, call the Seminary office at 914-636-2003.
Parking and admission are free for this event, which will be held rain or shine. Bring your lawn chairs, tavloo/backgammon boards, and most of all your friends and take in the afternoon's sights, flavors, and sounds.
