Liturgy 212: Scripture Readings of the Liturgical Year
This course examines the connection between the Sunday Bible readings appointed in the Armenian Lectionary (Jashots) and the feasts of the church year. This semester will focus on the Bible passages read during the Sunday Divine Liturgy (Badarak) for the period including Great Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension and Pentecost. Students will be led through a detailed reading and exegesis of the Sunday readings and will learn the history and theology of these festal periods. In this way they will understand the logic behind the Armenian Church's selection of Scripture readings and better appreciate the Bible in its liturgical context. This course is a component of St. Nersess Seminary's Master of Arts in Armenian Christian Studies, and is open to all interested.
