The first visible step in the construction of St. Nersess Armenian Seminary's new library and chapel complex will take place on Saturday, June 12 at 1:00 PM. On Friday the outline of the buildings was drawn in white paint. During Saturday's ceremony the ground will be broken and four granite stones, one at each corner of the building, will be ritually washed with water and wine, and then anointed with holy chrism, known asmuron.
His Eminence Abp. Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America and President of the St. Nersess Board of Directors, will preside over the day's activities along with numerous other clergy and dignitaries.
The benefactor will be introduced on Saturday during the ceremony. By his request, the complex will be known as the "Catholicos Karekin I Theological Center of St. Nersess Armenian Seminary." The chapel will be dedicated to a saint on the day of its consecration, about 18 months from now.
Saturday's ceremony is open to the public. Hundreds are anticipated to participate in the service and enjoy an outdoor reception from 2:00-5:00 PM. For further information call the Seminary office at (914) 636-2003.
