"Monastic Life: The Way of the Cross" is the title of a talk that will be presented at the Seminary on Monday, March 13, 2006 at 7:30 PM. The speaker will be the Orthodox monk, Brother Stavros, of New Skete, a monastery of the Orthodox Church in America located in Cambridge, New York, not far from the Vermont border.
The speaker will be making a visual presentation on the history of the monastic life, including Armenian monastic life, as seen particularly in some of the world's most famous monasteries. This lifestyle,"Living the life of the Cross," has been one of the most enduring expressions of Christian spirituality, across all cultures and times.
For the past thirty-five years, Brother Stavros has been an integral part of New Skete's experiment in living liturgical reform. As the community's liturgist, he has a special interest in Armenian liturgical traditions. He was an invited speaker at the 2002 international symposium on Liturgy in the Christian East sponsored by St. Nersess on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.
Monday's lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will be offered following the lecture. For further information contact the Seminary at firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone: (914) 636-2003.
