St. Nersess Seminarians and faculty participated in the annual Oriental Orthodox Concelebrated Liturgy today at St. Mark's Syrian Orthodox Cathedral in Teaneck, New Jersey.
The annual celebration is organized by the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches. The conference brings together the bishops and clergy representatives of the North American Dioceses of the Armenian, Coptic, Ethiopian, Syrian, and Malankara Syrian Church of India. This family of ancient, Apostolic, Eastern churches is known as Oriental Orthodox. The sister churches share the same essential doctrine and are in full communion with one another.
In a show of the full unity of these churches, each of the participating bishops approached the holy altar at various points in the Liturgy to offer the prayers in English. Also serving at the altar were more than a dozen deacons from the various churches. Our St. Nersess Seminarians also participated in the Liturgy along with the dean, Fr. Daniel Findikyan.
Joining in the concelebration were His Grace Metropolitan Mor Severios Abraham, Visiting Bishop from the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church, India; His Grace Bishop David, Archdiocese of the Coptic Orthodox Church of North America; His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church of the Eastern United States; and His Eminence Archbishop Mor Gregorios Yohanna, Visiting Bishop from the Syrian Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo, Syria. Rev. Fr. Michael Tekle Green represented His Eminence Archbishop Matthias, Archdiocese of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church of North America.
