Penitential Hymns of Exodus 15 (Abashkharootyan Orhnootyoon)
(Հայր բազումողորմ)
Tone 1
Translated by: V. Rev. Fr. Daniel Findikyan
Most merciful Father, I confess to you as did the prodigal son. Forgive my sins and have mercy on me.
Lord, you showed compassion on the Canaanite woman. Show compassion on me, too, a sinner and have mercy on me. Lord, you turned the tax-collector toward the knowledge of truth. Turn me, too, a wanderer, and have mercy on me. Most mericful God, preserve your creatures, O Father almighty and have mercy [on us]. Sun of righteosness, shine upon our souls the light of truth and have mercy [on us]. Grant us peace, Lord, and save us from those who trouble us, O Spirit of truth, and have mercy [on us]. Help me, Lord, in my trouble as once [you helped] Jonah, and have mercy [on me]. Cleanse me, Lord, of my transgressions, as once [you cleansed] the tax collector, and have mercy [on me]. Save me, Lord, from my insidious lips and revive me from [my insidious] blood, and have mercy [on me]. I shed tears of my contrition before you, O Christ. Forgive my sins as once [you forgave the sins of] the harlot, [for] you alone are most merciful. I fall down before you, O Christ, shepherd of the rational flock. Seek me, too, who have gone astray, [for] you alone are most merciful. I shall expose to you my sins, O Christ, healer of souls and Lord of life. Heal, too, my illness, [for] you alone are most merciful. I am in peril due to the multitude of my sins. O God of peace, help me. I am thrown about in the wind of my lawlessness. O King of peace, help me. Tossed about, I am floundering in the depths of the sea of sin. O good captain, save me. Have mercy on me, O God. When [I] hear the sound of the trumpet on that awesome day; when the archangel sounds it and calls [everyone] to judgment, have mercy on me, O God. When you take your judgment seat, O fearful Judge; when, in a trial by fire you examine the sons of mankind, have mercy on me, O God. The second Adam, who came from you, for the sake of the transgressions of the first [Adam]; preserving our [human] nature, he dissolved the deceipt of the fatal fruit. Intecede with Him always to save us. Glory to the Father… Now, Mother of God, beseech the one born of you for our sake, so that as He keeps us with Him, we might be renewed with Him by his holy resurrection. Intecede with Him always to save us. Now and always… At the second coming of the Son of God, the holy cross will appear and illuminate [the world]. For it is hope for those of faith. |
